Biography
I trained at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and spent the first part of my career working in theatre, performing across the UK and internationally, and generally had a wonderful time making a living dressing up and pretending to be other people.
Then life took an unexpected turn.
While I was working as an actor, I had a sideline doing kids’ parties. Holding the attention of a roomful of excited five-year-olds is an education.
One day I started weaving a little yoga into the story I was telling. A witch was coming to steal their sparkles, I explained, and we needed to learn some special moves to stop her. Suddenly the children weren’t just listening to a story — they were in it. They had a job to do.
I began exploring the idea further, eventually teaching yoga to children in schools where I live.
Martin, my husband, saw something bigger in it. What if we could make these stories into videos so children everywhere could join in? In 2012, we put our first Cosmic Kids Yoga Adventure on YouTube.
Since then, I’ve written and performed in more than 400 Cosmic Kids videos. They combine storytelling, comedy, movement and an extraordinary collection of characters. Our YouTube community has grown to two million subscribers, and our videos have been watched over half a billion times. We estimate that it is used in more than 150,000 classrooms every week.
I’ve also taken Cosmic Kids into the real world, performing solo live shows for thousands of children and families at festivals and events in the UK and internationally — including Camp Bestival, The Big Feastival and Gloworm and an Australian and New Zealand tour.
I’ve collaborated with brilliant people and organisations including Paul McCartney, the European Space Agency, Paramount, DreamWorks, P&G and Pinkfong, and written children’s books published by Watkins and Penguin Random House.
More recently, we’ve made two broadcast television series for Sky Kids - Jaime’s Yoga Adventures and Jaime’s Treetop Tales.
I still love Cosmic Kids and there are lots more things I’d like to create within that world. But I love performing — whether that means television, theatre, character comedy, live entertainment, voice work, or something I haven’t thought of yet.
I spent years thinking I’d taken a detour away from being an actor. Looking back, I’m not sure I did. I’ve spent the last 15 years performing — just in a way I could never have imagined when I left drama school.
And now I’m curious about what comes next. If you have ideas, please contact me on jaime@cosmickids.com!
